For immediate release:
October, 2011
Ottawa, Ontario – Computers for Communities (C4C), an Ottawa-based non-profit that refurbishes computers and distributes them to those in need in exchange for community service, donated 8 computers to Rwanda Social Services and Family Counseling (RSSFC). The computers will help not only the Rwandan community in Ottawa, but other immigrants, who may not be able to readily access technology.
“We are very excited to receive 8 computers from Computers for Communities,” says Odette Uwambaye of Rwanda Social Services. “The donated computers will help us to continue to provide quality social services, including settlement programs, employment counselling, and educational support. The technology will empower our members and help them adjust to Canadian society.”
Dave Sampson, Executive Director of Computers for Communities is equally happy about the donation. “Computers for Communities is excited about our most recent donation to Rwanda Social Services,” says Sampson. “The donation also marks the start of a partnership between C4C and RSSFC. RSSFC will provide 24 hours of community service per computer, for a total of 192 hours, in exchange for the technology. The community service provided to our organization will allow us to continue our operations and help us bridge the digital divide in Ottawa.”
Rwanda Social Services and Family Counseling is a non-profit, community-based social service organization. RSSFC is dedicated to providing a wide variety of social services and assistance programs to members of the Rwandan community in Ottawa. These services are designed to support Rwandan refugees and other immigrants during the difficult, complex, and stressful process of acculturation. The organization aims to build self-sufficiency and decrease dependence on public assistance among Rwandans in Ottawa.
