Computers for Communities Mailing Lists
It is important as an organization to stay in touch with our supporters. Mailing lists are a primary means for Computers for Communities (C4C) to share informations with its stakeholders, build a community of volunteers and provide technical support as a part of our computer refurbishing activities.
Currently C4C maintains several mailing lists hosted by National Capital Freenet. These lists are described bellow.
C4C Announcements
This low volume mailing list is used to communicate upcoming events, new information, recent newsletters and other news related information. This list is not used for general discussion and does not accept postings from its subscribed members.
This mailing list is recommended for media, partner organizations, sponsors, funders, volunteer alumni and members of the general public that want to stay informed with our current activities.
C4C Discussion
This mailing list is used for the volunteer and stakeholder community to discuss issues and share ideas related to Computers for Communities. The volume of this list may vary depending on the current issue or discussion topics. Only subscribed members may post discussions to this list.
This mailing list is recommended for active volunteers, members of the board of directors and C4C membership at large to discuss ideas openly. Please review our mailing list policy.
C4C Technical
This mailing list is used to provide technical support to those who have received a refurbished computer from C4C or members of our technical teams. Each computer that C4C refurbishes and distributes comes with one year of volunteer supported technical support. This mailing list serves our technical communities and recipients of refurbished computers. Only subscribed members may post discussions to this list.
This mailing list is recommended for recipients of refurbished computers requiring technical support, volunteers of the @HOME Refurbishing program and any C4C committee or sub-committee members discussing issues of a technical nature. Please review our mailing list policy

Full Disclosure
Our c4c-discussion and c4c-tech lists are intended to promote and provide local support to our users of the Ubuntu Linux Operating System.
Our users expect to come and get advice on the operating system we provided them, that being Ubuntu. Therefore, any request for support for a Windows platform should be referred off list. Also, due to licensing issues, C4C will not do installations of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, or other proprietary software. However, there are often free and open source alternatives, such as Linux or OpenOffice, for which the Ottawa Canada Linux Users Group (OCLUG) offers free recommendations and support. Please direct such questions to their technical mailing list.
Unless it is part of our 1 year tech support or supporting activities for the organization, general Linux questions should likewise be directed to OCLUG's mailing list.
